Portland Leather Goods Bag Reviews
I have been getting targeted ads for Portland Leather Goods for months now and have held off because I was skeptical of the quality (and am generally skeptical of targeted ads). The other month I decided it would be worth it to buy a mystery tote + 6 to test it out and wow, now I'm obsessed! I'll give a little rundown of the items I have down below as well as some overall thoughts on the brand at the end.
Large Classic Tote (Gray)
Gray isn't a normal color and was what I received in the mystery box. The color is really nice. It's more of a taupe and has a decent amount of brown in it, which I prefer because I'm not really a gray gal. It is sueded on the outside and unfinished on the inside with a single pocket. The large is a little too big for an everyday carry for me (I'm 5'0), but it is a nice overnight bag if I'm staying with my boyfriend and need to pack some toiletries and a change of clothes.
Laptop Backpack (Nutmeg)
Nutmeg is the classic medium brown with pebbles and it is gorgeous! I went with the laptop backpack because my laptop is 14" and wouldn't fit in the tote backpack. It's a little long, but because of the thin profile it doesn't look overwhelming on my frame. I prefer the pebbled leather in this because it has a little more slouch and is a little more casual than a smooth leather, which is better for an everyday carry.
Mini Crossbody (Rust)
This was another mystery box color and I love it! The color is terracotta-esque and is super slouchy with pebbles. I don't necessarily love how it looks when I set it down. Because it is so slouchy it slumps over if it's not full and can look a little frumpy. I do love it when it's on me and is a nice neutral that goes with most things that I wear. This is an inherently casual bag with the mini handles so I wouldn't wear it to a fancy dinner or party, but for running errands this is a nice bag.
Zippered Crossbody (Honey)
The crossbody is different from the tote because it is deeper and comes with a crossbody strap (though it can also be worn as a tote). I bought one with a zipper because I thought I might want to travel with it and a zipper is essential to keep things from spilling out under the airline seat. Honey was the color on the website that I gravitated towards the most. It is a lighter brown smooth leather that just screams summer to me. I like that the zipper folds down and isn't in the way if you want to carry it open. The honey I got is darker than the one pictured on the website, but it's still lighter than my nutmeg and I like it.
Envelope Crossbody (Honey)
This was my last purchase for a while. I wanted something that could function as a clutch for weddings and other events and this bag fit the bill. The smooth black wasn't in stock when I ordered, but I probably would have ordered that instead if it were. Honey is smooth and structured and I think that it can be dressed both up and down. It doesn't match everything like black might, but for the outfits that I have planned it'll be perfect. This is a small crossbody and I wouldn't use it as an everyday carry, but it is extremely versatile and I know some people use it as a belt bag too! The honey I got in this is way darker than the one on the website or even the crossbody that I have, which a lot of people might not like. I don't mind it and you can always return it if the coloring isn't what you want.
Overall thoughts: I really like Portland Leather Goods. Everything that I own will last years if not a lifetime, which is why I ordered from them (I've been trying to get more high quality items that will last longer). Out of my collection the two that I love are the laptop backpack (I use it nearly every day) and the zippered crossbody (for it's versatility). For those unfamiliar with the brand, the "almost perfect" section is where I buy everything. I've never gotten a flawed item from that section and it will always be the cheapest price. Pebbled leathers are softer and slouchier than the stiffer leathers and they are also more resistant to scratches. The mystery boxes are a great value, but they're a mystery (in terms of size, zipper, color) as are the minis (passport cases, wallets, keychains, etc) that come with it. Lastly, the website has a countdown with a coupon code, but that is always there! The clock restarts when it runs out and there is never not a code for the website (usually 25%, sometimes higher).
Let me know if you've gotten anything from Portland Leather Goods and feel free to leave questions in the comments and I'll get back to you.
PS: this post was not sponsored, everything was purchased by me for me, I'm always 100% honest with my feelings in review posts.
