A 2021 Mid Year Check In
We are halfway through the year. How crazy is that? This year has flown by, but has also felt like a billion years. If you haven't taken the time to do a mid year check in with yourself it's my hope that this will inspire you to do so. I'll walk you through the process and then I'll share my own at the bottom of the post.
To do a mid year check in I first like to write down my big goals for the year. These are the three to five things you started the year wanting to do (some might call them resolutions). Going through each of the goals, you're going to write the actions that you've done towards that goal in the past six months and what is working for you. Then you're going to create mini-goals or milestones for the rest of the year to keep you on track. Repeat for the rest of your goals.
I also like to do a bigger "feels" check in. I journal how I feel in four areas of my life: my body (includes physical and mental health), social life, work, close relationships. You can add more categories as is relevant for your life (spirituality might be one for you).
So now for me. I feel good in my relationship with my significant other and my family. I am not happy with my work life balance and have been actively working with a life coach to help me improve this area of my life (let me know if you want a full post about life coaching). I am okay with my body, it's not love but also not hate. I am at the beginning stages of a workout journey of sorts so I'm hopeful by the end of the year I'll be in a different place with this.
One of my goals at the start of the year was to make friends in my new state and maintain existing friendships. These past six months I have made an effort to call my existing friends and check in (although not as consistently as I would prefer). I have also downloaded bumble bff to try make friends in person but have yet to take anything offline. Some action steps and milestones I can try to shoot for in the next six months would be plan a trip to see friends from college in person, meet up with two connections from bumble in person, spend one on one time with existing acquaintances to try form deeper relationships in person (maybe 1x month).
I know 2020 and the first half of 2021 was a wild ride, but as things are approaching normality I think it is an ideal time to start making changes you want in life. If you ever want to chat goal setting or need someone to hype you up, let me know!
