Where to Eat in Reno Nevada
Unpopular opinion: Reno is the best city in Nevada. If I could live anywhere in the world, it would be Reno. I left three years ago and have been trying to find my way back ever since. This month I took my partner to Reno for a visit and ate at a few of my favorite restaurants. I thought I'd share some recommendations in the next few weeks in case any of you are planning on making your way to the Biggest Little City in the future!
Best Brunch: Two Chicks
Two Chicks is a locally owned, women founded restaurant. They are insanely popular and can get really busy at peak brunch times on the weekend. There are two locations - one in South Reno and another in Midtown and I would highly recommend the Midtown location. They have a walk up bar so you can get drinks while waiting and are right across the street from two fabulous boutiques: Nomad and Sierra Belle. This past trip I got the kimchi bloody mary and the burger and both were excellent. Don't forget to get the garlic parmesan fries. The owners have a grilled cheese business (Gourmelt - can't miss it either!) and these fries are top notch.
Best AYCE Sushi: Tokyo Sushi
All you can eat (AYCE) sushi is a big deal in Reno! I've tried most of the places and Tokyo is consistently my favorite. They have a huge menu and with the AYCE you can order appetizers like baked mussels, tempura, and agedashi tofu along with hand rolls, nigiri, and sushi rolls. Some standouts from the menu are the tempura fried upside down shrimp nigiri (it's shrimp stuffed with crab salad deep fried), the spicy tuna and salmon skin hand rolls, and the midtown. It is cheaper for lunch than dinner and is a really good choice for an late lunch/early dinner. I would recommend going with friends so you can order a ton of options and share with the table! Lastly, the tempura banana is a bomb dessert so save room!
Best Vietnamese/Pho: 999 Pho
There was a time in college where I would go to 999 Pho at least every other week. Growing up in Hawaii and traveling through the West Coast I have had my fair share of pho, but this is the best I've ever had. I always get the #14 (rare beef with flank) although my friends and mom swear by the chicken pho. They also have rice dishes and bahn mi if you're not in a soup mood. The restaurant is located centrally in a strip mall, but not necessarily near any destinations but is worth making your way to.
Best Lunch: Sup
Sup is my favorite spot for a salad, sandwich, or soup in town. Everything they have tastes amazing and the selection of soups change daily. My go-to is the half turkey pesto sandwich combo. It comes with the sandwich, a small side of their cranberry salad, a soup of your choosing (I die for their chicken tortilla) and a small cookie with a drink. It is a lot of food and a really good value. It's also located in midtown and is the perfect location to grab a bite before going shopping or to the bars.
Let me know in the comments what your favorite Reno restaurants are and if you'd like more food guides like this in the future.
