Easy Ways to Eat Healthier
Lately I've been making a conscious effort to eat healthier because I noticed that I was eating worse than usual and feeling the effects. Here are a few easy changes I've made to help improve my diet.
1) Intermittent Fasting
I love intermittent fasting because I don't need to restrict what I'm eating, I only need to restrict when I am eating. I've been doing 16 hours of fasting and 8 hours feeding throughout the day, which has worked out best for me. I usually try to finish eating by 6pm so I can start eating at 10am the next day.
2) Getting in Lots of Greens
I've been doing a salad a day for the past week and I've loved the way that it makes me feel. As a base I either use spinach, the Trader Joe's power to the greens mix, or a spring lettuce mix. Then I add in some tomatoes, avocado, and a protein (either rotisserie chicken or salmon). It's really hard for me to remember to get in greens unless it's in a big salad or juice/smoothie and this has made a huge difference in my diet.
3) Portion Control
I've done a lot better about controlling the size of the sweets that I eat. If I have a carton of ice cream in the freezer, I'll end up overeating and it'll be gone within a week. Lately I've been buying the mini ice cream cones at Trader Joe's and the chocolate covered frozen bananas and that has been a way for me to eat guilt free.
