What I'm Reading June 2022 and Recent Book Favorites
One of my resolutions for 2022 was to read more books. A couple years ago I was really into reading self development books, but shortly after burnt out and haven't picked up a book for fun since. Summer is the best season to read and I bought myself a Kindle so I could read in bed with the lights off at night (highly recommend). I thought that I would share the books I'm planning on reading this month with you in this post as well as some recently finished books that I loved. Depending on how fast I get through the books on my list I think this might be a monthly or bi-monthly series where I share my recommendations and hopefully get some from you.
To Read This Month
1) People We Meet on Vacation - Emily Henry
I recently read Book Lovers (see the end of this post for my thoughts on that) and I wanted to read through some of her other books. I feel like I saw the cover for this book everywhere on social media last summer and wanted to start with this before Beach Read. I'm over halfway through this book and I like it, albeit less than Book Lovers. I think she writes really normal seeming people that are flawed and interesting. Very excited to finish this book.
Another Emily Henry book. I have enjoyed the other two books and I feel pretty certain that I will enjoy reading this one as well. I've heard Kenzie Elizabeth say that this is her favorite of the Emily Henry books so I have high hopes that this will be great.
3) Malibu Rising - Taylor Jenkins Reid
I'm slowly working my way through the Taylor Jenkins Reid catalogue and this is the next book I want to read. I read the synopsis and it just seems so quintessentially Californian and like a great light summer read.
Three Recent Reads I've Loved
1) The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo - Taylor Jenkins Reid
This book is having a moment and I bought it because of the hype. It is just SO GOOD. I love how well she wrote every single character and made the main character flawed and imperfect. The storytelling is just spectacular and as someone who loves old Hollywood I was sucked in from the very start.
This was a new release this summer and I was intrigued from the synopsis. What I liked most about this book is how much of myself I saw in the main character. She is headstrong and independent, career driven and powerful and her story was really fun and compelling. This is a light read, a romance novel but extremely funny. A rom-com novel, if you will. I like it better than People We Meet on Vacation, I will report back after finishing Beach Read and give you my definitive ranking.
3) What I Was Doing While You Were Breeding - Kristin Newman
This book is the outlier in this post in that it's non-fiction and autobiographical. This book is about Kristin's life as a young adult traveling during her hiatus from screenwriting and her romantic escapades during these trips. It was such a great read for two reasons: the wonderful descriptions of the places she traveled, and the hilarious tone of the book. This book was a nice reminder to live a little more, have a little more fun, be more adventurous, because everything works out in the end.
Let me know if you have any book recommendations for me! I'd love to hear what books you all have been loving lately.
