Simple Summer Skincare Routine
My skincare routine goes through some changes during the summer. As someone with combination skin that can be both incredibly oily and dry at the same time, it's taken me a while to find the right serums and lotions to keep me hydrated without feeling sticky or greasy throughout the day. I am not particularly acne prone, but my skin does have a little texture and benefits from frequent exfoliation.
Morning
In the morning I don't use cleanser on my face. I've cleansed well the night before so a quick splash of water is all that I need. I follow that up with a light moisturizer. I've been using the Trader Joe's facial moisturizer lately and it's really cheap and nice. The moisturizer I use doesn't include SPF so I layer a sunscreen on top of it. I have been using the Glossier Invisible Shield, but once I use up the bottle I'm switching to something mineral based and reef safe. After sunscreen I go about my normal makeup routine (you can see some of my summer makeup favorites here)!
Night
My night routine is more involved. I double cleanse using whatever cleanser I have laying around. Lately it's been a charcoal gel cleanser. The first time I use my hands to take off the makeup and the second I use my Foreo Luna Mini to get deeper into the pores. About 3 times a week I use Acid Potion form Moon Juice as a chemical exfoliator. I've gone back and forth with the best way to apply it and have found that using a few drops on my fingers and patting it into the skin works best. I follow it up with a serum and then use Weleda Skin Food as my moisturizer. I like both the light and original skin food formulations. During the summer I tend to use the light more often because it's easier to apply a light layer, but I go back and forth. Lastly, I finish it off with a lip balm. I'm partial to a classic cherry chapstick, but sometimes use a Burt's Bees or a Glossier Balm Dot Com.
