Recipe: Golden Milk
Golden milk (aka turmeric lattes) have been everywhere lately! Promising benefits such as anti-inflammatory effects, antioxidents, and lowering the risk of brain and heart problems, it's no wonder people everywhere are drinking this magical drink. I've hopped on the bandwagon myself and thought I'd share my recipe with you! While I don't know if I've experienced any of these benefits, I think that turmeric and curcumin can be wonderful additions to a healthy diet and wellness practice.
Ingredients:
- 4 cups liquid of choice (I usually split this 50/50 water/almond milk, but coconut milk will give you a thicker consistency)
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 0.5 teaspoon ground ginger
- 2 teaspoons honey (add the sweetner to taste, you could also sub in sugar)
- pinch or two of black pepper
Directions:
- Combine a cup of your liquid with the spices and honey in a pot on low heat and whisk until combined
- Add in the rest of the liquid, continuing to whisk until everything is combined
- Simmer on low heat for 10 minutes (optional, but the longer you heat it, the deeper the flavor profile)
- If serving iced, cool to room temperature and pour over ice
- If serving hot, either pour into a mug and drink it straight, or transfer to a blender to get a foamier latte
A popular addition to turmeric latte recipes on the internet is coconut oil. Coconut oil is great because it contains an abundance of medium chain triglycerides, which can help improve cognitive function and metabolic health. I don't include oil in my recipe because I tend to drink mine iced and coconut oil tends to separate. If you're drinking this latte warm, you could absolutely add in a scoop of coconut oil (or even add some grassfed butter bulletproof style), but I would suggest blending it to make sure it doesn't separate.
If you're looking at other online recipes, most tend to omit the black pepper. Black pepper increases the bioavailability of curcumin (the compound that provides the health benefits of turmeric), so if you're drinking a turmeric latte made without black pepper, you're not getting all the benefits you could.
Let me know in the comments if you've tried making your own turmeric lattes and if you add anything to yours that I don't! Also, make sure to follow this blog on bloglovin so you don't miss any new posts.

I have a huge problem with inflammation in my body. It so bad that is what landed me in the hospital last July. So I think the health benefits of this would be amazing for me. And sounds like it tastes good as well. Thanks for sharing!
