Mindful Movement
I've always thought of myself as an active person. I was a dancer and a cheerleader as a child and prided myself on being strong and flexible. Then my 20s happened.
I recently came to the realization that I hadn't been moving my body the way I should (at all) during a conversation with a life coach. We were talking about my ideal day and I mentioned early morning workouts as something that I should be doing. Together we came up with a plan: I would workout three days a week in the mornings and be consistent with it. Consistency wasn't something I struggled with as a child with scheduled practices and classes, but as an adult it was much harder to maintain when I could be doing anything but working out.
Mindful movement is what I decided my body needed. I don't need high intensity classes and at this stage I don't really want to lift. I want to reground myself and figure out how to be comfortable in my body naturally. Sky Ting is a yoga studio based out of New York. I had first heard about them from an interview Alison Roman did and later started going to their zoom yoga classes when the pandemic started. As the world shifts back into normal, summer bodies are out in full force, and I want to be consistent with my workout. So I subscribed to Sky Ting TV. The on-demand class option from the same studio.
I haven't seen a major transformation in my physical body the past month I've been doing Sky Ting TV, but I have noticed the mental shifts. How kapalabhati breathing energizes me and how cat cows in the morning make my back hurt less throughout the day. I've even got my boyfriend trying crow poses and doing his own yoga practice.
All this to say I'm trying. I'm trying to treat myself better, to workout more frequently, to love myself deeply. If you're like me and want to start incorporating exercise into your life, I couldn't recommend yoga or Sky Ting enough (not sponsored, just a huge fan!). Let me know how you've been incorporating activity into your daily life. I've also been a huge fan of taking walks during lunch to get my steps in (perks of being back in the office)!
